L’église paroissiale catholique romaine de Sainte-Catherine est un point de repère de la ville titulaire de Blankenberg près de Hennef.
Le début de la construction peut être daté de l’année 1245 ; L’année de l’octroi des droits de ville à Blankenberg, le comte Heinrich III von Sayn et son épouse, la comtesse Mechthild von Meißen-Landsberg, fondèrent un couvent prémontré à l’intérieur des murs de la ville, qui fut occupé par des moniales cisterciennes peu après sa fondation. L’église du monastère a été élevée au rang d’église paroissiale indépendante en 1248, probablement après son achèvement. Le monastère fut transféré à Zissendorf en 1265, et le droit de collation sur l’église paroissiale resta chez l’abbesse jusqu’au XVIe siècle.
