Le château de Ringelheim est un ancien monastère du 10ème siècle, qui a été sécularisé en 1803. L'église conventuelle baroque Saint Abdon et Sennen est connue pour son précieux orgue et le crucifix provenant de l'atelier de l'évêque Bernward de Hildesheim.
Probablement sous le règne du roi de l'Orient franc Henri Ier et de Mathilde de Ringelheim entre 919 et 936, un monastère royal de jeunes filles a été établi sur l'Innerste, peut-être aussi seulement en 940 sous Otto Ier par le comte Immat de la lignée des Immedinger.
