Kapellen est à la fois un quartier de Moers et, en tant que Kapellen-Mitte, l'un des six quartiers de ce quartier dans le district de Wesel en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie. En plus de Kapellen-Mitte, les quartiers sont Bettenkamp, Holderberg, Achterrathsfeld, Achterrathsheide et Vennikel.
De l'ancien village typique du Bas-Rhin de Kapellen, avec une empreinte agricole, qui est devenu plus tard un site minier, la localité a évolué vers un quartier en pleine croissance en raison des changements structurels.
