Cunnewitz est une commune allemande de Saxe, située dans l’arrondissement de Bautzen, dans l’est de la ville, et appartient à la commune de Ralbitz-Rosenthal depuis 1994. Le village est situé en Haute-Lusace et fait partie de la zone de peuplement centrale des Sorabes. La majorité des habitants parlent le sorabe comme langue maternelle.
Le nom du lieu est dérivé du mot sorabe kóń et signifie quelque chose comme « lieu de chevaux » ou « lieu de propriétaires de chevaux ». La forme allemande du nom est basée sur le sorabe.
