Baztan, ou plus généralement la vallée du Baztan, est formée d'une quinzaine de petits villages dont la capitale est Elizondo. La langue basque y est coofficielle avec l'espagnol et 77 % de la population est bascophone.
Limitée à l'ouest par la comarque de Bortziriak , au nord et à l'est par la France, provinces basques du Labourd et de Basse-Navarre dans les Pyrénées-Atlantiques et au sud par la comarque d'Auñamendi, municipalités de Esteribar et Erro.
