L'église Santa María de Farfaña est édifiée sur une colline, à côté du château et au-dessus de la population de Castellón de Farfaña dans la région catalane de la Noguera, dans la province de Lérida.
Au XIIe siècle, il y avait un temple roman primitif, la chapelle du château. Cette construction a été récupérée au milieu du XIVe siècle. La construction a été lancée en 1347 par la comtesse Cecilia d'Urgell et l'année suivante, les travaux étaient déjà en cours. L'œuvre a continué sous Pedro II d'Urgell, fils de Cecilia et de Jacques Ier d'Urgell.
