Fontenu est une commune française située dans le département du Jura, en région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.Le site de ce petit village de moyenne montagne sur le deuxième plateau du Jura, à 15 km de Champagnole et 30 km de Lons-le-Saunier, est remarquable par sa position en surplomb au-dessus du lac de Chalain qui constitue une partie importante du territoire de la commune de Fontenu.
