L'abbatiale, du XIème-XIIème siècles, constitue un bel exemple d'art roman, influencé par la Saintonge et le Poitou : déambulatoire, clocher octogonal, décor sculpté de grande qualité. L'abbaye, fondée au XIème siècle par Guillaume VIII d'Aquitaine, abritait au XIIème siècle une communauté soumise à l'ordre de Saint Augustin. Plusieurs fois dévastée (guerre de Cent Ans, guerres de Religion), elle fut reconstruite au XVIIIème siècle et vendue en 1792 comme bien national. Exposition estivale de diverses œuvres.
