Heddon-on-the-Wall est un village du Northumberland, en Angleterre, situé sur le mur d'Hadrien. Heddon-on-the-Wall est situé à environ 9 miles à l'ouest du centre de Newcastle upon Tyne, et juste à l'extérieur de Throckley. Le nom de lieu 'Heddon' signifie 'colline où la bruyère poussait'.
Le nom de lieu 'Heddon on the Wall' est attesté pour la première fois dans les Pipe Rolls de 1175, où il apparaît sous la forme Hedun. Il apparaît sous la forme Heddun en 1262 et comme Hedon super murum en 1242. Le nom vient de l'ancien anglais hæth-dūn, signifiant 'colline où la bruyère poussait'.
