La rivière Chater est une rivière dans les Midlands de l'Est en Angleterre. C'est un affluent de la rivière Welland, et elle fait environ 22 miles de long.
Elle prend sa source près de Whatborough Hill dans le Leicestershire, puis coule vers l'est, en passant par le château de Sauvey et l'abbaye de Launde, avant de franchir la frontière du Rutland. La vallée de Chater est un site biologique de 3,8 hectares d'intérêt scientifique particulier au nord de Loddington, Leicestershire. La rivière continue vers l'est, au nord de Ridlington, Preston, puis au sud de Manton et au nord de Wing. Au nord-est de South Luffenham, elle est rejointe par le ruisseau Morcott. Elle continue vers le nord-est, passant sous la route A6121 au pont de Foster et à travers Ketton, avant de rejoindre la rivière Welland près de Tinwell.
