La Collégiale Santa Maria Assunta est le Dôme de San Gimignano, situé « Piazza del Duomo » et accessible au sommet d'une volée de marches.
Attesté du Xe siècle, l'édifice actuel remonte à 1056, suivi des consécrations officielles du pape Eugène III en 1148. Il fut restructuré en 1239 et le perron ajouté en 1263. Il fut agrandi de nouveau en 1460 sur le projet de Giuliano da Maiano, qui allongea le guichet et le presbytère et projeta les nouvelles chapelles de Sainte Fine et de l'Immaculée Conception.
