Le détroit de Messine est un détroit en mer Méditerranée qui sépare la péninsule italienne de l'île de Sicile . Il relie la mer Ionienne au sud à la mer Tyrrhénienne au nord. Sa plus petite largeur est de 3,3 km. Les courants y sont violents par endroits.
Les deux principaux ports sur le détroit sont Messine en Sicile et Reggio de Calabre, plus précisément Villa San Giovanni sur le continent.
