L'arc était l'ancienne Porta di San Maurizio al Ponte dans les murs du XIIIe siècle et tire son nom de la petite église de San Maurizio (populairement appelée Samoreci) et du pont-levis qui se trouvait juste à l'extérieur.
Aujourd'hui, c'est un arc en plein cintre avec un attique soutenu par des corbeaux et avec deux niches à l'intérieur qui abritent des bustes de grands-ducs Médicis.
