Heukelum est un village situé dans la commune néerlandaise de West Betuwe, dans la province de Gueldre. Le 1er janvier 2006, le village comptait 2 050 habitants.Un document de 996 indique qu'un certain Fretzhold a fait don de ses droits sur l'église de "Ukele", tel que la localité de Heukelum s'appelait à l'époque, à l'évêque Ansfrid d'Utrecht. Grâce à ce don, on sait qu'une église s'élevait à Heukelum cette année-là. On en conclut que le village de Ukele est connu depuis au moins cette date. Une légende raconte comment le seigneur Jean II d'Arkel a reconstruit Heukelum après un pillage par les Vikings. Il aurait été conduit au bon endroit en chassant un cygne. L'année 1230 est mentionnée comme l'année confirmée où la ville s'entoure d'une enceinte.
