Le village de Langeaar est dominé par l'église catholique romaine St. Adrianus (1902). Langeraar se trouvait autrefois à l'endroit où se trouve maintenant Ter Aar, mais il a été balayé en janvier 1788 après une rupture de digue près du Braassemermeer. Le village a été reconstruit à son emplacement actuel. Plus tard, à l'emplacement de l'ancien Langeraar, un village a de nouveau été construit et a reçu le nom de Ter Aar.
