La Porte de Schiedam et son voisin, la Porte de Rotterdam, ont maintenant disparu, mais on peut encore les voir sur le tableau de Vermeer 'Vue de Delft'.
Savais-tu que Vermeer a été redécouvert par les Français en tant que maître peintre seulement dans la seconde moitié du 19ème siècle ! Entre autres, Marcel Proust était complètement fasciné par cette œuvre. Bien que Proust était gravement malade, il s'est traîné jusqu'à l'exposition au Jeu de Paume où ce tableau était présenté. Il l'a qualifié de plus beau tableau du monde.
