Le Caillou de Doorn est originaire de Scandinavie. Pendant l'avant-dernière période glaciaire, lorsque une langue glaciaire atteignait le milieu des Pays-Bas et formait la Veluwe et le massif de Hollande, des pierres errantes ont également été transportées. La plupart des pierres errantes excavées ont été rassemblées comme monument géologique dans la Zanderij Maarn, mais une pierre a échappé à cette collecte et a été placée sur un socle dans les Forêts de Kaap.
