La ville antique de Laodicée du Lycos en Carie, en Lydie ou en Phrygie était la capitale de la Phrygie en Asie Mineure. Ses ruines sont encore visibles à proximité entre le village de Goncali et le quartier d'Eskihisar , à 6 km du centre de Denizli en Turquie.
Elle porte le nom de l'épouse d'Antiochos II, de la dynastie des Séleucides, fondateur de la ville au IIIe siècle av. J.-C. Le nom de Laodicée étant commun à de nombreuses villes on lui ajouta ad Lycum du fait de sa proximité avec le fleuve Lycus ou Lycos.
