Ogni anno, intorno a settembre o ottobre , le maree primaverili e le correnti sottomarine portano grandi quantità di sabbia, dai depositi sottomarini al largo della vicina frazione di El Socorro, alla spiaggia di La Entrada, che in pochi giorni si trasforma in un'enorme spiaggia di sabbia nera.
Da lì vengono lentamente trascinati nell'entroterra di Malpaís dagli alisei dominanti, finché le maree non strappano nuovamente la sabbia e la spiaggia ritorna al suo aspetto più consueto. Pertanto la spiaggia può essere sabbiosa per uno o due mesi all'anno.
La sabbia portata dal vento si sposta centimetro dopo centimetro fino a raggiungere i piedi della Montaña Grande e ricoprire un'ampia fascia che ha dato origine ad un ecosistema unico e di grande importanza, abitato da una fauna e una flora molto diverse da quelle del resto del mondo. Paese.
