Sempre meglio inciampare sulla pronuncia – oggi si va nell'incantevole valle Pfafflartal e a Pfafflar – che lungo il sentiero! Innanzitutto il percorso conduce con tratti assicurati al valico Steinjöchl, poi prosegue scendendo al passo Hahntennjoch. Dopo aver attraversato alcuni pittoreschi paesini nella valle Pfafflartal, ci si inoltra nella valle Angerletal alla volta della meta di oggi, il rifugio Hanauer Hütte. L'escursionista si trova ora all'interno dell'area protetta del Muttekopf, che copre una superficie di 38 chilometri quadrati. Gran parte di questo territorio tutelato si trova al di sopra del limite boschivo ed è perciò considerata alta montagna. Rispetto alle zone calcaree già attraversate, qui la vegetazione è più rigogliosa e ricca di molte piante alpine rare.
