Il fiori molto profumati del tiglio attirano enormemente le api che ne fanno un ottimo miele. Ma anche gli afidi apprezzano il tiglio. A volte questi insetti sono così numerosi che le loro deiezioni dolci e appiccicose cadono dalla chioma dell'albero fino a terra. Le formiche ne vanno matte. Attenzione alle auto parcheggiate sotto un tiglio! Le infusioni di fiori di tiglio hanno un'azione analgesica e calmante; un'infuso di tiglio prima di coricarsi può fare miracoli. Il legno di tiglio è usato per la scultura, per i tasti del pianoforte, i talloni delle scarpe e i fiammiferi. Il tiglio olandese è un incrocio tra il tiglio a foglie larghe (T. platyphyllos) e il tiglio a foglie piccole (T. cordata).
