La Linkeroever fu progressivamente sollevata alla fine del XIX secolo. La zona di Sint-Anneke è stata una delle prime aree dove sono stati portati sedimenti e sabbia grossa. Sulla nuova superficie è emerso un arido paesaggio di dune, che ha senza dubbio contribuito alla nascita e al successo del cluster di ristorazione con spiaggia di sabbia. Importante per il mantenimento del paesaggio sabbioso è la dinamica del vento all'altezza della prominente curva del fiume Schelda. Da Sint-Anneke si gode di una bella vista del resto del Noordkasteel, dall'altra parte del fiume Schelda.
