Questa scultura dell'artista Roger De Haes è stata inaugurata nel 2006 in memoria della tragedia mineraria di Marcinelle (1956). L'artista descriverebbe così la sua creazione: ‘Due minatori, sopravvissuti alla tragedia, seduti su carbone e appoggiati l'uno all'altro, colpiti dall'evento e con lo sguardo fisso nell'infinito’. La mano sinistra di uno dei minatori poggia su una lampada da minatore. L'altro minatore tiene in mano un guanto. Entrambi indossano un tipico casco da minatore. Diversi abitanti di Betekom sono stati vittime. Nel vicino cimitero è stato già eretto nel 1957 un monumento commemorativo a forma di lampada da miniera.
