Un 'Francesino' era il nome locale per un lavoratore stagionale che, fino all'inizio degli anni '60, partiva ogni anno in campagna verso la Francia. I lavoratori stagionali di Heldergem venivano impiegati nelle fattorie del dipartimento della Senna e Marino. Il lavoratore stagionale di Heldergem, con il tipico 'bouzasje' sulla spalla, è stato immortalato in una statua di bronzo.
