Linnich è la città più a nord e la terza più grande della regione di Düren nel Nord Reno-Westfalia. Si trova esattamente a metà strada tra le città di Mönchengladbach a nord-est e Aachen a sud-ovest lungo il fiume Rur.
Linnich e i suoi dintorni si trovano a nord della Jülicher Börde, al confine tra la baia di Colonia e la pianura alluvionale del Basso Reno. Il centro città di Linnich si trova nella valle del Rur a sinistra del fiume. I quartieri adiacenti si raggruppano attorno, con Körrenzig e Tetz che si trovano anch'essi nella valle del Rur. Anche se Linnich non si trova direttamente nella zona mineraria del carbone lignitico renano, si possono trovare nel territorio comunale numerosi effetti delle vicine miniere a cielo aperto.
