Al momento dell'apertura nel 1913, questa stazione si chiamava Danziger Straße. Nel 1950 la Danziger Straße fu rinominata Dimitroffstraße in onore del leader del partito comunista bulgaro Georgi Dimitroff, e di conseguenza fu cambiato anche il nome della stazione. Nel 1991 fu rinominata Eberswalder Straße, dopo la continuazione verso ovest della Dimitroffstraße, che a sua volta non fu rinominata fino al 1995 per motivi politici: i nomi delle stazioni erano sotto il controllo del governo cittadino, mentre i nomi delle strade potevano essere cambiati solo con la cooperazione dei distretti locali.
