Il Duomo di Altenberg è l'ex chiesa del monastero con il patrocinio di Santa Maria Assunta, costruita dai Cistercensi nell'abbazia di Altenberg nel 1133. Fino al 1511, il luogo di culto era anche la tomba dei conti e dei duchi di Berg, nonché dei duchi di Jülich-Berg.
"Duomo di Altenberg" è la denominazione tradizionalmente utilizzata per la chiesa del monastero, dove la parola "Duomo" in questo caso non si riferisce alla cattedrale di una diocesi, ma fa semplicemente riferimento alle dimensioni cathedralesche dell'edificio. Oggi il Duomo di Altenberg è di proprietà dello stato del Nordrhein-Westfalen ed è utilizzato dal 1857 simultaneamente dalla comunità cattolica romana e dalla comunità evangelica come chiesa parrocchiale.
