La fonte della Vechte si trova ai margini di Darfeld, per essere precisi nella frazione di Oberdarfeld. Essa nasce da un piccolo bacino sorgentifero con diverse sorgenti che gorgogliano e punti di percolazione superficiale. Dalla piccola ponte sul bacino sorgentifero, osservando attentamente, si può vedere l'acqua zampillare.
Negli ultimi anni, le condizioni ecologiche della fonte della Vechte sono state migliorate grazie a misure di rinaturazione. Inoltre, nel 2003 è stata dichiarata area protetta.
Alla fonte di Oberdarfeld inizia anche un popolare percorso cicloturistico, che si estende per 225 chilometri lungo la Vechte fino ai Paesi Bassi. Qui la Vechte sfocia, dopo 182 chilometri di corso d'acqua, nello Zwarte Water e poi scorre nell'Ijsselmeer.
