La chiesa di Santa Maria di Farfaña è edificata su una collina, accanto al castello e sopra la popolazione di Castellón de Farfaña nella comarca catalana della Noguera, nella provincia di Lleida.
Nel XII secolo c'era un primitivo tempio romanico, la cappella del castello. Questa costruzione fu recuperata a metà del XIV secolo. La costruzione fu promossa nel 1347 dalla contessa Cecilia d'Urgell e l'anno successivo erano già in corso i lavori. L'opera continuò sotto Pedro II d'Urgell, figlio di Cecilia e di Giacomo I d'Urgell.
