La conurbazione Petrer-Elda si trova all'interno della provincia di Alicante. Composta dalle città di Petrer ed Elda forma, con 88.164 abitanti, il 6° nucleo di popolazione della Comunità Valenciana e il 47° di Spagna.
Se fino all'anno 1975 si poteva ancora stabilire una linea divisoria approssimativa, nel quartiere chiamato precisamente la Frontera, a partire da questa data l'unione fisica dei due comuni è stata già completa, e si è dovuta creare una comunità di servizi, denominata attualmente, Comunità Intercomunale della Vall del Vinalopó.
