Questa è la quinta tappa del percorso di circa 750 km da Albacete, nell'est della Spagna, a Lisbona, in Portogallo.
Partendo da Almadén, si percorrono strade tranquille uscendo dalla provincia di Castilla-La Mancha. Da una zona montuosa si scende in una pianura in Extremadura. Questa pianura dovrebbe essere un enorme bacino idrico, ma è quasi asciutta. L'intero percorso alterna tratti in salita e discesa tra i 350 e i 650 metri di altitudine. In particolare, tra Peñalsordo e Zarza-Capilla è necessario affrontare una salita ripida di 2 km. Qui la strada diventa anche più larga e trafficata. Anche gli ultimi 30 km tra Cabeza del Buey e Castuera sono piuttosto trafficati e abbastanza monotoni.
