In cima al Puy d'Yssandon, all'ingresso del piccolo villaggio arroccato a 360 metri di altitudine, si scorge la sagoma di una torre. Questo sito era noto fin dall'inizio per la sua posizione strategica di difesa: si dice che qui esistesse un oppidum gallico e che Pipino il Breve abbia affrontato Waïfre, duca d'Aquitania, nell'VIII secolo.
Ma questa imponente torre è l'ultima vestigia di un castello medievale che fu distrutto durante la Guerra dei Cento Anni nel XV secolo. Oggi, i tavoli da picnic permettono ai visitatori di fare una pausa e di godersi il paesaggio collinare e le splendide viste panoramiche della zona intorno a Le Puy.
