Una passeggiata attraverso il passato di questa grande città inizia meglio alla Cattedrale di San Paolo (metro di San Paolo).
Nel 1666 il suo predecessore cadde preda delle fiamme. Sir Christopher Wren fu quindi incaricato di costruire una nuova, ancora più bella casa di culto, qualcosa in cui sicuramente riuscì. Con la sua imponente cupola dipinta, San Paolo è la chiesa più bella della città. La pietra miliare fu posata nel 1675 e per i successivi 35 anni Sir Christopher seguì da vicino i progressi ogni venerdì. Per di più, elaborò anche piani per altre 50 chiese a Londra. All'età di 78 anni, visse il suo più grande trionfo: suo figlio posò la pietra angolare nella cupola della cattedrale.
