Il territorio di Lerici è situato nella riviera di Levante, sulla sponda orientale del golfo della Spezia. Sorge al centro di una piccola insenatura naturale, denominata Seno di Lerici e dominata da un promontorio su cui spicca l'imponente castello. Quasi di fronte al borgo capoluogo, oltre la località della Venere Azzurra, si trova l'abitato di San Terenzo.
