Sesto San Giovanni an]; storicamente in milanese anche Sest de Monscia) è un comune italiano di 79 732 abitanti della città metropolitana di Milano in Lombardia.
Il nome del comune si compone di Sesto, ad indicare la distanza in miglia da Milano lungo un'antica strada romana che collegava Milano e Monza ) e San Giovanni, indicazione introdotta a partire dal 1100, per rendere chiara la dipendenza di Sesto dalla Basilica di San Giovanni a Monza e dal suo territorio, la Corte di Monza.
