Teramo è un comune italiano di 51 685 abitanti, capoluogo dell'omonima provincia in Abruzzo. La città ha origini molto antiche, riconducibili ai Piceni e ai Pretuzi, che dominavano fino al III secolo a.C. l'area di Aprutium, da cui il termine "Abruzzo", prima del dominio romano.
Nel nucleo antico di Teramo, di forma regolare, vi sono importanti resti del periodo romano e medievale. Rimasta racchiusa all’interno del pianoro di confluenza fluviale fino all’inizio del XIX secolo, la città avviò successivamente un programma di riorganizzazione urbanistica che la portò a espandersi, in particolare a seguito della costruzione dei ponti sul Tordino e sul Vezzola.
