Cassino è un comune italiano di 35 220 abitanti della provincia di Frosinone nel Lazio. Seconda città della provincia per numero di abitanti, fu per secoli il principale centro della Terra di San Benedetto, aggregato fin dal medioevo alla Terra di Lavoro. Ultima città verso sud della Valle Latina, si sviluppa ai piedi del monte che chiude infatti la valle e su cui sorge la celebre abbazia di Montecassino, lungo un percorso storicamente strategico per le comunicazioni tra il centro e il sud d'Italia. Pressoché totalmente distrutta dai bombardamenti della seconda guerra mondiale, e per questo nota anche come la città martire, è stata completamente ricostruita nel dopoguerra.
