La Val di Fassa si trova nelle Dolomiti di Trento. La valle è stata modellata dal fiume Avisio, che ha origine dai ghiacciai della Marmolada. Il nome Val di Fassa si riferisce solo alla parte più alta della valle. Prima che l'Avisio sfoci nell'Adige, il nome della valle cambia in Val di Fiemme e Val di Cembra. Alcuni dei più famosi gruppi montuosi delle Dolomiti circondano la Val di Fassa: la Marmolada, il Sella, il Latemar, il Sassolungo e il Catinaccio. Gli abitanti dipendono in gran parte dal turismo sia d'estate che d'inverno. Durante l'inverno è una importante area sciistica, fa parte del Dolomiti Superski, uno dei più grandi comprensori sciistici del mondo. In estate, la valle è molto apprezzata dagli escursionisti.
