Sia toponimo Lauriacum sia quello della frazione Calpuno sarebbero di origini romana. Quest'ultimo in particolare sarebbe da legare alla gens Calpurnia originata da Calpo, figlio del re di Roma Numa Pompilio. Alcune monete recanti l'effige di quest'ultimo sarebbero effettivamente emerse durante alcuni scavi archeologici effettuati nel territorio luraghese.
