L'Orco è un grosso torrente del Piemonte affluente a nord - ovest del Po, che scorre per circa 90 km prima nella valle omonima e poi nel Canavese occidentale.
Il nome latino del corso d'acqua era Orgus flumen, attestato in Plinio. e, in un atto di donazione al monastero di Fruttuaria da parte di Ottone Guglielmo conte di Borgogna , viene definito "fluvium Orgium". Da allora il nome ORCUM compare in atti e documenti. Il nome locale piemontese si riferisce, nell'etimologia popolare, alle pagliuzze d'oro, peraltro piuttosto rare, che a volte vengono ritrovate nelle sabbie, , del suo alveo
