Il territorio comunale, situato al centro della valle Roveto alle pendici dei monti Cantari, è dominato dal monte Viglio .
Il nucleo originario si è sviluppato sul versante occidentale del fiume Liri, mentre su quello orientale si estende l'abitato moderno costruito dopo il terremoto della Marsica del 1915.
