Il secondo assedio di Mantova ebbe luogo nel 1799, allorché le "repubbliche sorelle" con sede in Italia, dopo la vittoria del 1797, si videro tutte rovesciate da rivolte in parte causati dagli eccessi del Direttorio in Italia, ma anche alimentate da inglesi e austriaci che sfruttarono la contemporanea Campagna d'Egitto intrapresa da Napoleone. L'assedio si concluse il 28 luglio 1799 quando a Castellucchio venne firmata la capitolazione di Mantova, sottoscrizione apposta dal generale francese Foissac-Latour e dal generale austriaco Kray.
