Al centro della Piazza
Il monumento si presenta (o almeno dovrebbe essere presentato, se fosse un po' più raffinato) in color oro come simbolo di purezza (lo stesso del popolo che lottò contro la mafia) e in color argento per lasciare che le colonne spicca. Il tutto è stato poi rifinito in finitura satinata per non disturbare gli automobilisti con i riflessi del sole.
La controversia sta nel fatto che, per collocare questo mausoleo al centro della piazza, fu spostato un altro mausoleo, ovvero l'obelisco dedicato alle 13 vittime. Molti sostengono che la piazza sia stata rovinata in questo modo, mentre altri vedono l'importanza di questa scultura come un importante simbolo moderno. Il fatto è che i palermitani non sembrano essere d'accordo su questo tema e la Piazza XIII Vittime fa ancora oggi molto discutere!
