Su quest'colle (Amersfoortse Berg) fu allestito un posto di osservazione per misurare la velocità del suono dal scienziato olandese Gerrit Moll. Questo avvenne nell'estate del 1823. Fu posizionato un cannone, insieme a un telescopio e a una serie di strumenti di misurazione per vedere quali fossero i fattori influenzanti (igrometro, termometro, barometro e anemometro). La misurazione avvenne infine il 27-28 giugno 1823. Il risultato fu la determinazione più precisa della velocità del suono nel mondo (332 m/sec).
