La storia
La Cappella di Maria a Gilze (comune di Gilze e Rijen) è stata fondata dagli abitanti della casa di cura Sint-Franciscus in segno di gratitudine per essere stati risparmiati durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
A Gilze ci sono state molte vittime e edifici distrutti durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Gilze si trovava sulla rotta di avvicinamento all'aeroporto di Gilze-Rijen, motivo per cui il villaggio è stato colpito (involontariamente) dai bombardamenti alleati.
Fondazione
Nonostante ciò, la casa di cura in Kerkstraat è stata risparmiata. Perciò, all'epoca fu promesso a Maria di erigere una cappella campestre in suo onore dopo la guerra.
Inaugurazione
La cappella è stata benedetta il 2 ottobre 1948.
