Il torneo di calcio della IX Olimpiade fu l'ottavo torneo olimpico. Si svolse dal 27 maggio al 13 giugno 1928 ad Amsterdam e vide la vittoria per la seconda volta consecutiva dell'Uruguay. Seppur considerato un torneo disputato in epoca amatoriale, è ufficialmente riconosciuto come un campionato mondiale: la FIFA, all'epoca, approvò un documento che sanciva che se i tornei olimpici fossero stati organizzati nel rispetto delle regole dell'entità massima, ai vincitori sarebbe stato ufficialmente assegnato il titolo di "campioni del mondo".
