La chiesa originaria risale a un antico eremo documentato fin dal XVIII secolo sotto il nome di Nostra Signora della Speranza e successivamente di Nostra Signora del Monte Carmelo.
L'aspetto attuale è il risultato di una ristrutturazione avvenuta all'inizio del XIX secolo, quando il volume venne ampliato.
La chiesa e la torre dell'originario recinto medievale coesistettero fino alla metà del XIX secolo, quando quest'ultima fu demolita, dando origine al nome "Igreja de Santo António da Torre Velha" (Chiesa di Sant'Antonio della Torre Vecchia).
La chiesa di Sant'Antonio è un edificio costruito su un antico eremo, ampliato nel XIX secolo e da cui prende il nome ancora oggi.
Il campanile , edificato dopo i lavori di costruzione del XIX secolo, è notevole per la sua altezza e per la presenza di doccioni in ogni angolo.
