La chiesa di Paulus fu costruita nel XVI secolo da Dom Bartolomeu dos Mártires per la Compagnia di Gesù presso il seminario di San Giacomo.
La chiesa fa parte dell'edificio che ospita il Museo Pio XII .
La facciata è piuttosto semplice e austera, e termina con un frontone triangolare con una finestra circolare. La chiesa ha una sola porta d'ingresso, incorniciata da colonne sui lati e un frontone sopra. Fu progettata da André Soares. In contrasto con la facciata, l'interno è sbalorditivo ed è considerato la migliore collezione di arte barocca della città durante i regni di João Pedro II e V.
C'è una sola navata con un coro molto grande. Ci sono diverse opere esposte, la più importante delle quali è di Tom Araújo . Ci sono anche statue dei quattro evangelisti (di António Pinto Araújo).
