In 1928 ontwierp Antoine Courtens, een leerling van Victor Horta, het herenhuis Haerens, een van zijn eerste belangrijke verwezenlijkingen. Hij was architect, decorateur en meubelontwerper en de belangrijkste vertegenwoordiger van de art deco in Brussel.
Dit hoekhuis werd gebouwd in opdracht van Robert Haerens, een ingenieur die voor de groep Empain werkte.
