Op het voormalige gemeentelijk stort worden sinds 2004 evenveel bomen aangeplant als er het afgelopen jaar kinderen geboren werden in Middelkerke. Dit gebeurt meestal op de Dag van de Natuur in de maand november.
Het zogenaamde 'geboortebos' is 6 hectare groot. De bevolking van Middelkerke wordt altijd uitgenodigd om mee te helpen met het planten van de bomen, zodat het ook echt om 'hun' bos gaat. Dit zorgt voor een sterke band met het bos, die de mensen stimuleert om het te respecteren en te waarderen. Errond werden ook streekeigen struiken en hagen aangeplant.
Je vindt ook nog een geboortebos in de Zevekotesteenweg (Leffingen), in het sportpark Krokodiel van Middelkerke-centrum, langs de Schorestraat in Schore en aan de Rattevallestraat in Mannekensvere.
